Adventures in Caught in Crystal

The ATC swap last month on Paperarts was the Caught in Crystal technique. There are different methods out there but we were given instructions here.
Alternative directions are here.
Here are a few things I learned.
1. Lumieres are beautiful in this technique but they are not transparent. The same applies to pearlescent acrylic inks but they are thinner.
2. I like working with re inkers especially my Impress ones which are very bright.
3. Alcohol inks and floor polish don't mix. It is hard to get a nice spread of colour.
4. Adding a small amount of glitter or mica powder like pearlex to the first layer helps "pop" the main image on your stamp.
5. Using your heat gun to hasten the drying is not very good. You can get separation of the layers and it takes away from the effect.
6. I like getting my fingers dirty with art.

I took it one step further and made what I call Caught in Crystal window.
Once my original piece was dry I added a layer of dimensional magic to the back and applied a piece of acetate over it. It took a LONG time to dry. Read 4 days. But, once done I had a transparent piece to mount in an ATC frame provided to me by Lisa from Hand Print art stamps.
